Where to Network in May – Meetups, Conferences, and More

Each month All Hands will share a post of events from around Taiwan. These events will span networking, professional learning, community gatherings, hiring, seminars, happy hours, and more. This will be a living list and is by no means comprehensive. If you know of a great event that should be included, please send us a message to let us know.

*Unless noted, most of these events are in English, but we have not attended all of these series before. You should look into the event if you have any language concerns.

5/2 – Work Where You Want – For All Hands Taiwan event #5, our panel of location-independent professionals will share anecdotes, experiences, and tips for those curious about pursuing a career that isn’t tied to a place. Expect a lively discussion, long Q+A, and a room full of great networking opportunities. (NT$300 includes a beer/wine)

5/3 – RISE.AI Roadshow in Taipei – RISE.AI – Southeast Asia’s First Corporate AI Accelerator program – will bring in 30 best-in-class AI startups from all over the world to Southeast Asia. We will stop in Taipei to recruit leading AI startups. We would like to invite you all to attend our networking event to further explore the AI horizon. (Free)

5/6-8 – Change Your Mind, Create New Results – This course is based on the neuroscience of change and it teaches how to break old habits that no longer serve and bring about true, lasting change — from the inside out. Includes 12 dynamic personalized activities, 4 practice tools, 13 videos that contain neuroscience-based explainations by Dr. Joe Dispenza for all key learning. (NT$17,500)

5/6 – Type A Breakfast – Taipei’s earliest work-focused professional networking event kicks off another week with two hours of concentrated work, followed by a unique weekly 30-minute sharing session. (Free)

5/9 – How to Use Storytelling to Gain Influence – How can influencers communicate the value of their ideas, initiatives, services and products when others do not see that value? How do you communicate to get buy-in? In this 3-hour interactive workshop, we will share with you how and why storytelling has the power to address such challenges. (Members NT$1,900; $2,500 for Non-members)

5/9 – How to Shape Your Digital Marketing Strategy with CCI France – Join CCI France at Blue Rooster Bistro to talk digital marketing with Mr. Jonahan Aufray, Co-Founder and CEO of Growth Hackers. Build meaningful business connections over a glass of wine or two. (NT$200 includes a drink and food specials on the menu)

5/9 – Co-Work at Wildmii Cafe – Hosted by Taipei Digital Nomads Meetup – Wildmii Safari Showroom and Cafe has open days on Tue./Thur., so let’s co-work here at this Thursday! It’s a quite place so be expected to focused on your daily works. (NT$150)

5/10 – Startup Subsidy Workshop from TSS – TSS in collaboration with SiTi will give you an introduction to each subsidy and government grants Taipei City Government has to offer. Expect to be guided through the application process to help your company get a chance to get subsidized. (Free)

5/10 – IoT Deep Dive Taipei – SigFox will host this Internet of Things event at Taipei Arena. Expect a number of interesting presentations and solid industry networking.  (Free)

5/14 – OKEx Talks 2019 – Meet us in the fascinating city of Taipei to enjoy a night of conversations, giveaways, drinks, and nibbles. (Open an OKEx account with a minimum investment of USD$5 and get $25 gift investment)

5/15 – Entrepreneur Experiences with Elias Ek – Serial entrepreneur and best-selling author Elias Ek, co-founder and president of leading B2B telemarketing company Enspyre 安石國際, is giving an exclusive talk on how to tap into Taiwan’s fledgling startup scene. (NT$150, includes a drink)

5/17 – MOX Friday Happy Hour with Hao Wu – MOX welcomes Hao Wu to discuss the live streaming business in China. As a technology executive-turned-filmmaker Hao Wu takes a raw and human approach to story-telling in an era when culture evolves online and across national borders. (Free)

5/20 – Type A Breakfast – Taipei’s earliest work-focused professional networking event kicks off another week with two hours of concentrated work, followed by a unique weekly 30-minute sharing session. (Free)

5/21 – Office Hours with Xiri Law at FutureWard – Want to start a business, but don’t know how to register your company? Running into legal issues with your startup and don’t know what to do? Ask the experts at Xiri Attorneys during their open office hours at FutureWard Central (4 time slots available). (FutureWard Members are Free; $300 half day pass for Non-members)

5/22 – Leveraging Data & AI in Financial Services – In this session, we will discuss what we are seeing in the industry, the pace of adoption in different geographies across different AI use-cases and we’ll highlight some of the key challenges faced by industry participants in this rapidly-developing field. (Members NT$1,400; $2,000 for Non-members)

5/23 – Lean Startup Dinner, Drinks, Discussions – How have you been practicing Lean Startup principles lately? Where are you in the Build /Measure/Learn cycle? What do you want to do next and how? If you don’t have amazing answers, it’s no problem as long as you make an effort. Entrepreneurs help other entrepreneurs. We all want to learn and grow. (Free with cafe purchase)

5/23 – European Business Association in Taiwan General Assembly – With this year’s GAM, we mark the end of the third year since the official opening in 2016 and the start of the fourth year of EBAT’s operations in Taiwan. The event will include a networking dinner buffet with the free wine flow of excellent choice. (Members/ Non-Members NT$1,200/1,400)

5/25 – Meet the Crafters at the Hive – The Hive Taipei will host its first crafters market in its historic building, featuring a wide array of handmade goods from all around Taiwan. (Free)

5/28 – 6/1 Computex 2019 – One of Taipei’s biggest annual events, Computex is the leading global ICT and IoT show with a complete supply chain and ecosystems. Co-organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taipei Computer Association (TCA), Computex covers the whole spectrum of ICT industry, from established brands to startups and from ICT supply chain to IoT ecosystems. (Free? but must have Confirmation Letter and two business cards)

5/28 – International Forum iiiNNO Demo Day – This will be an open startup pitch competition with the top prize being a trip to Techsauce in Thailand. There are both a preliminary review and a final pitch. More details will be sent with application form. (Free)

5/28 Tweak Town 20th Aniversary Computex Industry Party – Complimentary industry party at Brass Monkey sponsored by ASRock, Endgame Gear, Nitro Concepts, Phanteks, ZOTAC. Prepare to show a business card or other credentials. (Free)

5/29-31 – Holland Startup Lounge at Innovex – Visit the biggest national pavilion at the 2019 InnoVEX, the Holland Startup Lounge organized by 荷蘭貿易暨投資辦事處 Netherlands Trade and Investment Office – NTIO, Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland –, Brainport Eindhoven, and StartupDelta to learn about the most innovative startups and solutions from the Netherlands. Happy hour with free beer every day at 5 PM! (Free with Innovex admission)

5/30 – AmCham Summer Cocktail Party – *This is a members-only mixer for AmCham members.* With inspiration taken from the Art Deco movement of the 1920s, the M.O. Bar is one of Taipei’s most sophisticated bars and your perfect oasis from the summer heat. New members who joined this quarter may attend this event for free.
