Where to Network in October – Meetups, Conferences, and More

Each month All Hands will share a post of events from around Taiwan. These events will span networking, professional learning, community gatherings, hiring, seminars, happy hours, and more. This will be a living list and is by no means comprehensive. If you know of a great event that should be included, please send us a message to let us know.


*Unless noted, most of these events are in English, but we have not attended all of these series before. You should look into the event if you have any language concerns.


10/2 Android Code Club – This casual bilingual Android coding group meets weekly. Feel free to bring your projects, seek advice or just come to talk shop. (Free with Purchase in Cafe)


10/4 Free Fridays at Futureward – Fridays are free at Futureward, one of Taipei’s longest-running coworking spaces. Take your projects and get to work, includes access to their full kitchen for your coffee and lunchbox heating needs. (Free)


10/8 Tryout Tuesdays at the Hive – If you need a temporary place to work or are seeking a new homebase, the Hive gives you two free visits at their free day, every Tuesday. (Free)


10/8 Work Tech Taiwan Grand Opening – Join WorkTech Taiwan as they join forces with iiiNNO (a startup launchpad that helps entrepreneurs access Asian markets) to celebrate the opening of their new space at Terminal C. (Free)


10/9 Women in Venture with Anchor Taiwan – Only 10% of venture capital professionals are female, so let’s support our ladies. This is a special salon-style evening for female investors to connect, share info, and support each other. (Free with dinner purchase)


10/10 Taipei Digital Nomads Meetup – Holidays are for other people! Hosted by Taipei Digital Nomads Meetup at Wildmii Safari Showroom and Cafe, this is a semi-regular gathering, check their meetup page for full schedule. (NT$150)


10/11 Kaohsiung Taostmasters Club Meeting – Toastmasters is a network of worldwide clubs in which members help each other become better public speakers and leaders. These bi-weekly meetings typically last about 2 hours and have distinct sections with members typically rotate between different roles each meeting. (Free)


10/11 Curators’ Intensive 2019 – This three-day international conference features a star-studded line-up of artistic and cultural practitioners, curators and scholars from Taiwan and abroad. Two workshops are scheduled respectively on 10 and 14 October. (Free)


10/13 Want to Learn Standup Comedy? – This Exciting new workshop will teach you the skills you need to write and perform a solid comedy act. This is a 4-week (1 day/week) intensive workshop. During each class you will work on joke writing, comedy structure, and performance. At the end of the course you’ll perform a set that will be recorded on video! (NT$2,200)


10/14 Toastmasters Club Meeting: Childhood – Do you want to be more confident? Do you want to be better at communicating with others? Do you want to develop leadership skills? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions then our Toastmasters club is the place for you. Taiwan Toastmasters is likely to include a mix of native and second-language English speakers. 10/16 Taste the Elixir – Elixir is a high-level functional language, built on top of a battle-tested, highly concurrent, and fault-tolerant runtime. You might have come across it on hackernews or Reddit. Come and find out what all the buzz is about! (Hive members NT$50, Non-Hive members NT$100)


10/16 How to Solve Complex Problems Using Design Thinking – This seminar will be especially useful for executives and senior managers in charge of visioning, designing, and redesigning companies’ solutions, processes, and business models as well as team leaders looking to create breakthrough strategies. 10/18 Shaken Not Stirred October – Join this monthly British Chamber mixer to experience the finest traditional method sparkling wines that are the pure expressions of the best England has to offer! October features wine from the Ridgeview winery. (?)


10/18 – 20 NASA International Space Apps Challenge – This annual NASA-sponsored app design event invites teams using open-source code. (Free – SOLD OUT)


10/19-20 Crosslink Taiwan 2019 – This Taipei Ethereum Meetup has invited prominent Ethereum experts, including Vitalik Buterin (inventor of Ethereum), Danny Ryan (Researcher, Ethereum Foundation), and Liam Horne (L4 Ventures & ETHGlobal) to share the latest scalability research progress. (NT$512 – 1,200)


10/23 The World in 2050 – Transformations to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals – TWI2050 Executive Director Prof. Dr. Nebojsa Nakicenovic will share the key findings from the two TWI2050 reports, as well as the role that digitalization can play in sustainable development. (Free)


10/23 Watch Out Marketers – Renato Lab COO Aining will discuss with us how businesses can maintain longer-lasting relationships with customers. Some points for discussion are designing products for the sharing economy, marketing subscription products, and identifying idle resources for the sharing economy. (Free)


10/24 Tricky Talks: Teach for Taiwan – Join special guest Stanley Wang, CEO of 為台灣而教 Teach For Taiwan – TFT, in the new WeWork space in Xinyi District. Serving Buckskin Beer plus other food and drinks are all included in the ticket price. There will also be a musical performance from singer-songwriter 謝孟庭 MengtingXie! (NT$950)


10/24 Individual & Corporate Taxes in Taiwan – Vivian Li of Veritas CPA will give a brief introduction on individual and corporate taxes. Learn the basics of how to file for taxes in Taiwan, what you need, and what to do! (NT$200)


10/25 MOX Happy Hour: To 5G and Beyond – MOX’s long-running happy hour series is back with special guest Leland Lai. Leland has built several fast-growth businesses in both Asia and Silicon Valley. He is currently active as a BoD / strategic advisor to SBIE2 (originated as a SoftBank Investment company), plus various SMEs and startups.(Free with free beer!)


10/26-27 European Education Trade Fair Taiwan – More than 100 European centers for education will offer information about opportunities for studying abroad. (Free?)


10/28 Ideation Workshop with Guillaume Defer – In this second workshop Brand Architect Guillame Defer will share part of his journey in entrepreneurship. This Hult-Prize hosted event seeks to guide you on your path towards building up a million-dollar idea. Feel free to invite classmates, teammates, friends and any other NCCU scholar that is interested in creating an impact, and be part of the Hult Prize community. (Free)


10/29 TAPT Meetup Featuring Angel Investor Greg Hao – Join Taiwanese American Professionals in Taipei (TAP-Taipei) for this meetup featuring esteemed member Greg Hao for hands-on introduction to angel investing in global teams spanning Asia and the Americas. (Free)


10/29 Aptifa Conference 2019 – The APAC Federation for Information Technology in Agriculture (APFITA) brings a forum to consolidate ideas, research, innovations, inventions and the vigor to transform the agriculture. The conference aims to coalesce the ‘Research Frontiers in Precision Agriculture’ for sharing the recent advances in ICT, IoT, sensor networks, image processing, robotics, machine learning, big data analytics, etc. in agricultural applications, precision agriculture in particular. 10/30 Early Stage Startups – From Ideas to Fundraising – Are you an early stage startup in need of some advice? Do you have some ideas that you want to run by an investor? Need help with fundraising?
