Where to Network in Taiwan in January – Conferences, Meetups, and More

Each month All Hands will share a post of events from around Taiwan. These events will span networking, professional learning, community gatherings, hiring, seminars, happy hours, and more. This will be a living list and is by no means comprehensive. If you know of a great event that should be included, please send us a message to let us know.


*Unless noted, most of these events are in English, but we have not attended all of these series before. You should look into the event if you have any language concerns.


1/8Global Injustice, Local Action: Migrant Fishermen in Taiwan – This event welcomes Lennon Ying-Dah Wong (汪英達), director of the Taoyuan-based migrant worker shelter run by the Serve the People Association, to speak to us about the conditions faced by migrant fishermen in Taiwan today. This is the second event in New Bloom’s new series on migrant workers, Global Injustice, Local Action. (Free?)


1/9FitFam Taipei HIIT DaAn Workout – Network and train with the Taipei FitFam community every Saturday morning. (Free)


1/10Galette des rois AFT – Taste the Galette des rois with the French Association of Taiwan. The price of admission includes two portions of cake. During the event, there will be a presentation by Cyrille Terrier from his new book “Small stories of good taste and pastries”. This event will be conducted in French. (NT$300 for members and NT$350 for non-members)


1/13 Bitcoin chitchat and drinks 比特幣小聚閒聊 – Let’s meet and chitchat to celebrate all-time-high with fellow bitcoiners. All levels are welcome. The format will be casual. Come and mingle! This event will have English + Chinese speakers. (Free)


1/14 Talent Development Workshop: How to Be Assertive – In this course organized by the British Chamber of Commerce in Taipei and NextGen Language Training, you’ll learn how to express your ideas assertively, ask and deal with questions, avoid or handle misunderstandings and express your ideas according to international business etiquette and global business communication standards. (Free for BCCT members, NT$1000 for non-members)


1/14 Hidden Taipei : A Lens Through the Eyes of Homelessness – Cyndi, founder creator of the NGO Hidden Taipei (街遊) from Homeless Taiwan (芒草心慈善協會) will share this interesting topic on homelessness. Cyndi has cooperated with Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hong Kong News, city governments and other NGOs. (Free for Rotary members, NT$200-300 for non-members)


1/14 Increase Your Productivity Using Text Editors – Learn how text editors can speed up your workflow dramatically. If your job involves writing content or creating slide decks, then you can boost your productivity after this workshop. This workshop is beginner-friendly. Bring your laptops, a mug/water bottle and positive vibes. (Free)


1/14Entrepreneur Visa Discussion – Are you on an Entrepreneur Visa (EV), or thinking of applying for one? Are you aware of the strict conditions that you have to meet in order to extend your EV? Is your EV due for renewal, and you realized you are screwed? Due to issues faced by many EV holders, we would like to brainstorm ideas and a strategy to collaborate with the government on a sustainable way forward for EV holders. (Free)


1/15Nuit de la lecture : Poésies en musique – Come listen to poets from here and elsewhere. To guide this poetic quest, Anne Dewees will accompany her personal selection of poems with singing bowl songs from Nepal. Register to reserve your seat. This event will be conducted in French. (Free?)


1/17 2021 Yourator Tech Career Fair – 60+ well-known technology companies in Martech, Fintech and E-commerce will be on-site to recruit talents and interact with job applicants. Note that this event may be conducted partially or fully in Chinese. (Free)

1/19Meet The Minister: SDG Luncheon with Minister Without Portfolio Audrey Tang – AmCham Taipei is honored to invite the Minister without Portfolio Audrey Tang to join our members for the SDG Series luncheon at the W Hotel. The speech topic is “Digital Social Innovation”. Only AmCham members are allowed to attend this event. (NT$1,500)


1/19World Expedition: Experimenting the Limits of Your Body – Ultramarathon runner Kevin Lin is the first modern Asian athlete to successfully cross the Sahara Desert and the Silk Road. Kevin is the founder of SUPERACE, providing environmentally-sustainable functional sportswear that incorporates spent coffee grounds. During his Science at the Bar presentation, he will share highlights of his expeditions, insights to his performance, his ambition to help fight water shortages around the world and his experiences in setting up his company SUPERACE. 1/21January Coffee Morning – Each month the Community Services Center host a networking & coffee event. This month, come learn about the history and traditions of the Lunar New Year, try holiday foods, paper cutting, and calligraphy. There will be many guest speakers and demonstrators, including TES Secondary School Students. (Free)


1/21The Golden Khan – Taipei Charity Book Signing Event – Join A.H. Wang as she celebrates the launch of the sequel to The Imperial Alchemist, The Golden Khan. A short presentation by the author will be followed by a book signing with all proceeds from book sales going to the Mongolian UNICEF charity for children. Snacks will be provided with drinks and cocktails available at the bar for purchase. (Free)


1/21CCCT 2021 Business Luncheon: ‘Fintech Law in Taiwan: A Survival Guide’ – The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan is proud to introduce Peggy Chi, Eddie Hsiung, Hao-Ray Hu, and Ken-Ying Tseng to share their knowledge and expertise in Fintech Law. 1/28 – Amnesty Talks: Abortion and Women’s Rights in Poland – This talk will introduce the history of Poland’s strict abortion law, discuss women’s rights and the feminist movement in a majority Catholic country, while presenting stories of the horrific dangers thousands of women face as they seek terminations abroad or the risk they take to have illegal abortions. It’s an informal and interactive talk so come join us and grab a drink or a bite to eat. (Free)
