Welcome to All Hands

Updated: Jan 4, 2022

Welcome to All Hands, where our mission is to serve the job seeking and hiring communities in Taiwan by making valuable information, advice, and resources available and accessible.

All Hands exists because the job search experience in Taiwan seems to have evolved very little in the past decade. Aside from a couple of well-intended Facebook groups and a slight uptick in English language job postings on sites like 104, there has been no marked improvement in the processes involved in seeking professional, non-teaching work as a foreigner. Likewise (with a few exceptions) companies seeking to hire foreign professionals from within Taiwan seem to have made few inroads in improving talent acquisition.

There isn’t one single inefficiency or challenge that can be pointed to as the root of these issues. Quite the contrary – gaps exist in many areas. For one, there are more job seekers than jobs. But, confoundingly, there are more management and executive roles than there are qualified candidates. Perhaps most frustrating to job seekers is the fact that a significant number of job postings suggest that local companies too often underestimate salary expectations of foreign talent. These examples are just the beginning.

Suffice it to say there are many topics to be covered, questions to be answered, resumes to be polished, portfolios to be bolstered, and positions to be filled. There’s also room here for discussions of entrepreneurship, management, ownership, hiring, and head hunting. Expect to hear voices from those avenues, too. That’s what this is all about. Stay tuned.
