Where to Network in February – Meetups, Conferences, and More

Each month All Hands will share a post of events from around Taiwan. These events will span networking, professional learning, community gatherings, hiring, seminars, happy hours, and more. This will be a living list and is by no means comprehensive. If you know of a great event that should be included, please send us a message to let us know.


*Unless noted, most of these events are in English, but we have not attended all of these series before. You should look into the event if you have any language concerns.


2/11 Tiger Growth Forum 台荷成長論壇── Why and How to Enter Europe? – Tiger Growth Forums invite  keynote speakers to present  the important themes to inspire and support  internationalization, especially to Europe. The first keynote speaker is Mr. Nelson Farfan Espada, a world-class strategist and marketer, speaking on the theme “business strategy and marketing planning”. (Free with registration, may include happy hour drinks)


2/14 This Week in Asia – Join fellow entrepreneurs at the Trust Cafe on the second Thursday of every month. Mingle and network in a relaxed and open atmosphere. Whether you are a professional, entrepreneur, or anyone wishing to be more involved in such endeavors, you are welcome to join. (Free with a purchase in the cafe)


2/15 MOX Friday Happy Hour with Adrian Scott – The MOX Friday Happy Hour series is an open community event for Taipei’s tech startup community. Founder & CEO at Freedom Stack, Adrian Scott is known for being a founding investor in Napster, and for pioneering social networking by creating Ryze in 2001 (which influenced Friendster, which influenced Facebook). (Free)


2/15 Book Launch: The Turk Who Loved Apples by Matt Gross – Former New York Times travel writer and Frugal Traveler columnist Matt Gross will be interviewed by Kathy Cheng (who wrote a book of her own recently) for the release of the traditional Chinese translation of his book, The Turk Who Loved Apples. (Interview is free at booth D707 with NT$100 book exhibition admission; event page is in Chinese, but interview will be in English)


2/15 Shaken Not Stirred with Vedett Beer – Monthly British Chamber of Commerce social hour featuring an open bar serving Vedett beers. (NT$1,000/1,300/1,400 for members/non-members/walk-ins)


2/16 Taipei Colorist / Film Industry Mixer – Network with the ICA and learn about what’s happening in 2019 in color grading, HDR, HLG, 8K, delivery methods and data storage.  Prize giveaways from Black Magic Design (5x Resolve Studio Licenses), FXPHD Training, Bluetooth headphones, Intel AKiTiO Thunderbolt and more! 2/17Global Worker 2 – Investment Banking to Google – The International Committee of Rotaract Club of Taipei works to invite professionals working abroad to share their stories as part of a multi-part series of events. The speaker will be Jim Liu, now an analyst at Google Taipei, formerly an investment banker in Singapore. ($NT250 for registered Rotaractors and students; $350 for Non-registered Rotaractors, OB Members, guests; $400 for walk-ins)


2/18Type-A Breakfast – Sit with a group of Type-A entrepreneurs and professionals from 7:30am-9:30am and focus on doing a full day’s work in two hours. (Free with RSVP)


2/19InnoVEX Mini Saloon BioTech & Healthtech x ICT – In this Mini Saloon, expect discussion of the latest developments, trends, and applications in biotech & healthcare and explore their integration with ICT. Joining the event are four top speakers who are active in both fields and plus six startups who will demo their solutions for better and more sophisticated healthcare. (Free)


2/20Soapbox Sessions at The Hive – Have you got something to say? Do you have a new idea you want to share? A new start-up/app idea? Soapbox Sessions gives you the chance to show off what you do best, with an ice-cold drink as a reward after. (Free, advance registration is recommended)


2/20WordPress English / Japanese Meetup – As part of Taipei WordPress Meetup, bloggers, developers, entrepreneurs, and freelancers who speak English or Japanese are invited to start building a community to share our knowledge and experience mainly on technology. (Free, with beer!)


2/21We Are One Taiwan: Black Lives Matter – We Are One Taiwan is a monthly platform for stories, where cultural differences and perspective is explored through conversation, poetry, and music. February Celebrates Black History Month. (By donation)


2/21Urban Tech | Trends, Fundraising & Global Acceleration – Anchor Taiwan hosts Stonly Baptiste, investment partner at Urban X, and Bruce Bateman, CTO at LiteOn, for a thought-provoking evening. This fireside chat will cover challenges and strategies for urban tech / smart city startups, cross-border sales and BD, business opportunities around the future of mobility, Taiwan’s unique strength in urban tech solutions. (NT$300 cash at the door includes refreshments)


2/21CCIFT Feb Networking Cocktail Hour – The first CCIFT networking event of the year will take place at the Landis Hotel (NT$800 for members; $1,000 for non-members)


2/22 2019 Kick-Off Party – TSS Leveling Up! – Taiwan Startup Stadium is launching new programs for startups, investors, and corporations, and you definitely don’t want to miss it. Revisit what TSS has done over the past 4 years, network, and enjoy complimentary food and beverages. (Free)


2/22 Public Speaking Basics with XY Bridges – This is a great opportunity if you have to give a speech, make a presentation for school or work, or even simply have to talk in front of others. Come learn how to present with confidence by using body language awareness and voice techniques in a safe, nonjudgmental space! (NT$1,200; $1,000 for students)


2/23 Anchor Roundtable: City, Re-Imagined – A special evening for urban tech investors, entrepreneurs and stakeholders to connect at Taipei’s coolest hotspot. This is a true salon-style roundtable discussion and will be limited to 15-20 seats. Application is required to attend. (Attendees responsible for their own dinner cost at venue)


2/23 Taipei Exchange & International Students Semester Opening Party – A huge mixer for exchange and international students in Taipei to celebrate the opening of spring semester. (Free?)


2/23 Coffee Chat with Sparklabs Taipei Founders – This event will include an overview of the accelerator program, followed by a panel discussion with recently graduated founders. You’ll also have plenty of time to network with them and get your questions answered. (Free but very limited, so reserve ASAP)


2/25 BE Accelerator Recruitment Orientation #2 – BE Accelerator focuses on medical technologies, especially digital medical, artificial intelligence in healthcare and medicine, and smart hospitals. The main recruiting is relatively mature startups. (Free)


2/26 MOX 6 DEMO DAY: Taipei – Mobile Only Accelerator – MOX – is hosting its latest round of demos. Expect to hear about a variety of new innovations from MOX-invested startups. (Free; Registration is required)

2/27 All Hands #3 – How to Get Hired – Join us for a panel discussion among HR professionals and learn about what really happens when you send your resume off in response to a job posting. We’ll cover resume tips, interview topics, follow ups, and more. (NT$300 includes a beer/wine)


2/27 Lean Startup Principles & Discussions – All motivated supporters and practitioners of Lean Startup principles are invited to come out to share and learn about Lean Startup and to meet some entrepreneurs. The venue is relaxed and discussions will be as democratic as possible. (Free to attend with a purchase in the cafe)


2/28 Introduction to Film making with Jaylene Kuo – Stage Time and Juice alum Jaylene Kuo will be visiting from Canada for a sneak peek premier of her short film “My Encounters with Canada,” which has been selected for the Reel Youth Film Festival in Cumberland, BC in March followed by a special workshop. Participants are asked to bring a device to film with (smartphone, camera) so that they can also explore creating their own footage. (NT$300)
