Where to Network in March – Meetups, Conferences, and More

Each month All Hands will share a post of events from around Taiwan. These events will span networking, professional learning, community gatherings, hiring, seminars, happy hours, and more. This will be a living list and is by no means comprehensive. If you know of a great event that should be included, please send us a message to let us know.


*Unless noted, most of these events are in English, but we have not attended all of these series before. You should look into the event if you have any language concerns.


3/1 Taipei Digital Nomads Meetup – If you’re working over the holiday, feel free to drop in and meet others who are working remotely. (Free)


3/2-3 International Workshop on Media and Social Impact – A two-day workshop hosting both local and international journalists, media professionals, and professors at National Central University in Zhongli. (NT$500 deposit is refunded after check-in)


3/4 Type A Breakfast – Taipei’s earliest work-focused professional networking event kicks off another week with two hours of concentrated work, followed by a unique weekly 30-minute sharing session. (Free)


3/4 SPIN Accelerator TW #1 Demo Day – IAPS from National Chiao-Tung University, with the support from Sports Administration Ministry of Education, brings HYPE SPIN global sports accelerator to Asia for a very first Demo Day. SPIN #1 teams specialize in data analytics, wearables, sports social-clusters, sports management, cycling, etc. (Free?)


3/5 Taiwan Tech Arena (TTA) Startup Fair – Five accelerator programs are partnering with TTA to host this free all day event. Expect a showcase of startups from Taiwan as well as a full day of speeches and presentations. (Free)


3/5 – Anchor Roundtable: CTO Night – A casual gathering with CTOs, CIOs, technical guys/girls in the team to chat about programming, hiring and more. Limited to 15-20 people, apply to receive an invite. (Free with purchase at host restaurant)


3/6 – Launch Taiwan Weekly Meetup – Join Launch Taiwan’s weekly meetup to see, learn, and start entrepreneurship from idea to implementation! We are the original Wednesday night startup group. Themes focus on problem solving. (Free)


3/6 Let’s Talk Financial Literacy and Investment Education – Financial literacy is more important now than ever before. Learning more about finances and investments can be one way towards achieving two goals — becoming financially literate and stable. (Free)


3/7 Networking Mixer w/ Taipei Marketing Talks + TW Entrepreneur Club – Taipei Marketing Talks and Taiwan Entrepreneur Club are co-hosting this mixer event. Expect more than just exchanging business cards and contacts – you’ll find a relaxing atmosphere to drink, share what you do, and learn from others. (Free w/one drink minimum)


3/8 Public Speaking Basics with XY Bridges – Workshop for those who have to give public speeches, make presentations, or talk in front of others. Learn how to present with confidence by using body language awareness and voice techniques in a safe, nonjudgmental space. (NT$1,200/Students $1,000)


3/8 Doing Business in Taiwan – from a Swedish Perspective – Two long-time Swedish business owners and residents of Taiwan will share their stories, followed by Q+A and networking/socializing. (Free w/pizza!)


3/11-17 Chris Mitchell Workshops at Taiwan Character Animation Forum – Renowned animation art director Chris Mitchell (DreamWorks, Disney) will be giving a series of lectures and workshops suitable for animators of all skill levels from March 11-17. 3/13-15 – APAC Wind Energy Expo – The inaugural Asia Pacific Wind Energy Expo – Taiwan’s first exhibition dedicated to supply chain development for Taiwan’s wind energy industry – will be held at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center. The expo anticipates over 200 booths, participation of 100+ companies, over five country pavilions (e.g. Denmark, Netherlands, United Kingdom, United States, Germany), and +3,000 attendees. (Free?)


3/13 Anchor Roundtable: Country Managers United – Are you a partner, co-founder, or a first employee charged with setting up your company in Taiwan? This is a special evening for country managers to connect, share info, and support each other. Attendance is limited and by approval/invite only. Apply for attendance in advance. 3/14 Your Career Questions, Answered – Don’t miss this panel of professional recruiters. No one can tell you more about how hiring works, what are good interview practices, what looks good on a resume, and what a prospective company is like. It would be hard to get more actionable career advice than you will in just one night.  (NT$300 includes a beer/wine)

3/14 Online to Offline 2.0 – Go Global or Go Home – From your app to your life, how integrated is your digital world vs. the real world? Two online-to-offline (O2O) market leaders from the restaurant reservation & beauty service booking industries will share their valuable experiences on their entrepreneurial journeys, go-to-market strategies, and why, when and how to go global. (NT$300 includes refreshments)


3/15 Shaken Not Stirred BCCT Happy Hour – Monthly social networking with the BCCT. For March, wear something green to be entered in a raffle for prizes. Entry price includes free flowing beer and wine plus light food. (Members NT$1,000; Non-Members$1,300; Walk-Ins $1,400)


3/19 Female Entrepreneurship X Design Thinking – This event is dedicated to females interested in entrepreneurship. A special roundtable talk of five startup founders working in education, beauty, fashion and non-profit, and two special guests – one in finance and one in law – will help answer some important questions to help you understand the foundations of business in this new era. (NT$350 includes a drink)

3/20 – Leadership, Team Building, and Communication with Curling – This 2 hour workshop from AmCham will provide you a fun, unique, interesting way to enhance your skills in leadership, adaptability, collaboration (team working and communication), and creativity. Clean socks are recommended. (Members $950; Non-Members $1,200)


3/20 – How to Start a Business in Taiwan with CCCT – The event will consist of a few short presentations by successful expat entrepreneurs, followed by a Q+A session. Advance registration is mandatory. (Members are free; Non-Members $100)


3/20Your Next Step, Working in Taiwan with Chengchi University IMBA – This afternoon workshop will cover such topics as application process and regulations for work permits, campus recruitment, and a job openings presentation, followed by networking. (Free with advanced registration)


3/21 – Anchor Taiwan x TTA: Female Founder v.s. Female Funder – Join this power lunch with a conversation between an investor and an entrepreneur. During this fireside chat with two lady bosses, discussion topics will include women’s strengths in entrepreneurship, fundraising, & investing, as well as how to build a successful startup in a foreign country. 3/22 – Anchor Taiwan x MOX Friday Happy Hour – Mox Happy Hour is back, this time partnering with Anchor Taiwan to bring senior business executive Johnny Fountain and his 29 years of experience in high tech industries to the stage. Johnny is General Manager of Cypheme, an anti-counterfeiting platform across Europe and Greater China. (Free with free beer)


3/26-29 – Smart City Summit + Expo – As artificial intelligence technology develops, the applications begin to play a key role in government delivery of citizen services. Smart cities are entering to a new phase of Smart City 2.0 by integrating AI as well as IoT technologies into services. Don’t miss this 4-day conference. (Free visitor passes?)


3/26 – Office Hours with Xiri Attorneys – Want to start a business, but don’t know how to register your company? Running into legal issues with your startup? 3/26 – Branding + Marketing Strategies with Tiger Growth Forum – A series of three foreign marketing and branding professionals will present topics and case studies focused on taking Taiwanese brands and products into European markets. Networking session to follow presentations. (Free?)


3/27 Drink Entrepreneurs Taipei Launch – Founded in Paris, Drink Entrepreneurs is extending to different cities in the world. Claims to be the most relaxed afterwork social for the start-up scene and beyond to make meaningful connections. (NT$300 includes one drink)

3/27 – Lean Startup Principles and Discussions – All motivated supporters and practitioners of Lean Startup principles are invited to come out to share and learn about Lean Startup and to meet some entrepreneurs. 3/28 – Working In & Out of the Box – An Experiential Diversity & Inclusion Workshop – In this highly interactive session from AmCham, you’ll be taken through “The Box,” a physical representation of unconscious bias, and learn key strategies for improving inclusion and chemistry in teams that transcend gender, age, culture, and language. 3/28 – Investor Speed Dating with Taiwan Startup Stadium – Up to 10 startup teams in the Smart City, Smart Mobility, and IoT industry will be selected for a speed dating event with five VC investors. 3/28 – InnoVEX Saloon – InnoVEX Mini Saloon invites international experts in the field of A.I., big data, and cyber security to explore the relationship of them and new opportunities in the phase of digital transformation. 3/29 – Young Professionals Workshop: Career Turning Points – Three CEOs will share how the choices they made in their career paths shaped them and where they are now. (BCCT Members $500; Non-Members $650)


3/29 – Meet the Anchors Mixer with Anchor Taiwan – Anchor Taiwan’s Spring 2019 program is approaching the end, but this is just the beginning of new ventures and new chapters. This gathering will celebrate growth, reflections and friendships. Send the Anchors off with an evening to remember. (Free?)


3/29-31 – Kaohsiung Industrial Automation Exhibit – The largest professional automation show in southern Taiwan will feature nearly 1,000 booths in areas such as Machine Tools, Industrial Machines & Equipment, Automatic Testing, Parts and Components, Intelligent Machinery / Robotics. (Free)
