Where to Network in August – Meetups, Conferences, and More

Each month All Hands will share a post of events from around Taiwan. These events will span networking, professional learning, community gatherings, hiring, seminars, happy hours, and more. This will be a living list and is by no means comprehensive. If you know of a great event that should be included, please send us a message to let us know.


*Unless noted, most of these events are in English, but we have not attended all of these series before. You should look into the event if you have any language concerns.


8/6 Scaling Your Venture: Global Market Expansion & Investment – Are you facing issues scaling your venture or running into challenges finding and/or talking to investors locally or internationally? 8/7 Meet the Anchors – This small and cozy monthly session has no set agenda, but usually kicks off with a round circle introduction. Curious about what Anchor is up to, want to pick our brains on your market entry/fundraising, or simply want to meet some newcomers and trade ideas? This is for you. (Free)


8/7 Global Hack 2020 Briefing Session – Taiwan Startup Terrace Global Hack 2020 is a startup competition to match startups with corporates and investors. Building on the success of 2019’s Bridge to MassChallenge Taiwan program, Startup Terrace Global Hack 2020 aims to identify, nurture, accelerate and support international, tech-driven startups both in Taiwan and abroad. 8/9 PACK Sanctuary Volunteering – Lend a hand at The PACK Sanctuary and help out some animals in need! Tasks will likely include cleaning pens, walking dogs, watering the dogs, and providing lots of love and care! Beginners welcome, but those with experience working with shelter dogs especially welcome. (Free)


8/9 Taiwan Creators Club Happy Hour #3 – Taiwan Creators Club is a place for all creators of any kind to meet up and get to know each other. No matter what you are into videos, blogs, art, music, dance, graphic design or even memes, let’s get together and build a community to help all creators do bigger, better things in Taiwan. (Free + free drink if you sign up for their mailing list)


8/11 SparkLabs Taipei x Taiwan Mafia Masterclass: Startup Scaling – SparkLabs Taipei and Taiwan Mafia are organizing an exclusive, founder-only Masterclass on Startup Scaling. Hear from Silicon Valley tech giants who have built and scaled global startups that have exited for a combined $1+ billion. Join knowledge sharing sessions with experienced entrepreneurs and investors and interact with them in small group discussion settings. (Free)


8/13 SEAREG 2020 Asia Conference – The annual SEA Research Group Conference opens with dinner on Thursday evening, continues with seminar-style presentations Friday followed by a happy-hour poster session and networking dinner, and concludes Saturday afternoon. Networking and mentoring opportunities are incorporated . At this conference, working papers will be presented by five 2020 SEAREG Fellows. (Free)


8/13 Co-work at Wildmii Safari Cafe – This is a recurring co-working meetup hosted by Taiwan Digital Nomads Meetup Group. Spend the day working in this beautiful cafe and get to know other remote or digital nomads in Taipei. (NT$150)


8/15-16 Summer Tech Career Fair – CakeResume will host this two-day career fair and conference with two stages and many leading tech companies participating. (NT$100-2,000)


8/15 Rising Industry Series – Digital Marketing – Digital transformation is taking place right now globally. Chair of Rotaract Vocational Service, Jim Liu, a Google Senior Business Consultant and Nina Chien, Account Manager at Appier, will share their experience working at top global internet companies and tips for entering this industry. (Free for Rotaract Members; NT$400-500 for others MUST PRE-REGISTER)


8/15 Lean In Taipei Kick-off Ceremony – Taipei Women In Tech hs focused on hosting events/forums that engage one-time participants for years. This year, we will introduce Lean In to our future plans, with sharing from a secret guest speaker about career development and mini-circle meetings for you to have a taste of Lean In. (Free with RSVP)


8/19 The Experience Series with Elisa Chiu – With a decade of experience at top tier investment banks and hedge funds, overseeing US$1 billion+ assets in Pan-Pacific Asia, Elisa Chiu founded Anchor Taiwan, an award-winning platform to provide industry access, market immersion and technology partnerships in Asia. Elisa was named a 40 Under 40 Women in Tech in 2018, and recognized as one of the 30 Women Power by New Taipei City Government in 2019. (Free for Hive members; non-members $200 includes a drink)


8/25 AmCham 2020 Hsieh Nien Fan – Hsieh Nien Fan is the year’s biggest social event for Taiwan’s international business community. The banquet’s main theme is thanking government officials for their cooperation and support throughout the year. The event attracts more than 700 guests, including CEOs, diplomats, Cabinet ministers, government officials, legislators and other key influencers. (Members $5,250; Non-member guests $5,800)


8/26 Early Stage Startups: From Ideas to Fundraising – Are you an early stage startup in need of some advice? Do you have some ideas that you want to run by an investor? Need help with fundraising? If you struggle with these questions, stop by FW open office hours with Angel Investor Greg Hao. (Free for Futureward members; NT$300 for a half-day pass for non-members)


8/26 Happy Hour – Wine Up Wednesdays with EBAT – This monthly platform allows EBAT member companies and individuals to showcase and introduce their products and services. Every happy hour features an EBAT member introduction. This monthly happy hour is open to all parties. Non-members who are keen to get to know our chamber and its members are welcome. (NT$500-700)


8/28 YP Workshop – Just do it! How to start your own company – Do what you love. Be your own boss. Change the world. There are many reasons to start your own business. So, what’s stopping you? Let’s get some inspiration from some young entrepreneurs who just did it. Join us for tales of success, failure and perseverance at this workshop and panel discussion. (NT$500-650)


8/29 Meet the Crafters! – The Hive is on the search for creative vendors in Taiwan to showcase your unique crafts – whether it’s food, drinks, jewelry or other knick-knacks! Take this chance to promote your creations and businesses. Submission deadline 8/15. (Free?)
